Florida Ghost uses the framework of video games to stage a return to the artist’s Floridian childhood landscape through the artificial sunlit surfaces of Grand Theft Auto: Vice City. Shot almost entirely within the game’s engine, the film drifts through a reconstructed Florida that is recognizable and emptied of life. Florida Ghost suggests digital space might be the only remaining form of spatial continuity. The film wanders through familiar strip malls, empty lots, and suburban ruins, retracing the steps of a ghost that isn’t aware it died.
